Consortium

A group of independent partners, such as companies and research organisations, that apply for and run a project together. It is required in Eurostars and common in EU programmes.

Why it matters

Finding the right foreign partner is often the real gating step, and it takes months, not weeks.

Eureka

An intergovernmental R&D network of more than 45 countries. Eurostars projects need partners from at least two Eureka countries.

Why it matters

Your consortium partner must come from the network's member countries, which cover most of Europe and several beyond.

EDIH

European Digital Innovation Hubs, EU-funded centres that give SMEs free or subsidised digitalisation help on a test-before-invest basis, including AI and cybersecurity expertise.

Why it matters

Free expert help exists before you spend grant money on consultants.

ERDF

The European Regional Development Fund is the EU structural fund behind much of Finland's regional business aid. Calls are announced on rakennerahastot.fi.

Why it matters

ERDF money follows EU programme rules on top of national ones, which is where extra criteria often come from.

JTF

The EU Just Transition Fund finances business diversification in regions affected by the phase-out of peat. In Finland it is granted by the Elinvoimakeskus alongside the normal development aid.

Why it matters

If your region qualifies, JTF can fund projects the mainstream instruments will not, though the programme is now in its final phase.
