Energy and green transition funding

Energy and clean-transition investments are among the best-supported things a Finnish company can do. National energy aid covers new technology, renewables and efficiency; large demonstrations have their own instruments; EU funds reach the biggest projects; and dedicated loans finance the rest. Below is every energy-relevant option we track, live from our funding database.

How to choose

Energy aid is the workhorse. For investments in new energy technology, renewable energy or energy efficiency, national energy aid is the natural starting point — support levels vary by technology, with new technology rated highest.

Big projects, bigger instruments. Demonstration-scale plants are served by large energy demonstration aid nationally and the Innovation Fund at EU level; the LIFE programme funds environmental and climate solutions more broadly.

Finance the remainder green. Finnvera’s Climate & Environmental Loan and EIB-intermediated bank loans carry the share that aid doesn’t cover — and regional investment aid may stack where your area qualifies.

Frequently asked questions

What does energy aid cover?

Investments in new energy technology, renewable energy and energy efficiency. The support level varies by technology — new technology carries the highest rates — so check the current percentages on the option page.

Is there support for a large demonstration plant?

Yes — nationally through large energy demonstration aid, and at EU level through the Innovation Fund, which funds large-scale decarbonisation projects.

Are there loans specifically for green investments?

Finnvera's Climate & Environmental Loan is aimed at sustainability investments, and EIB-intermediated loans through Finnish banks often carry green criteria as well.
